The LSM is a parachute slider-mounted lighting system designed to provide visual marking of parachutists or aerial loads for collision avoidance and/or tracking during both training and tactical operations. The LSM is available in visible and IR versions.  Both versions provide a strong visual or IR marker for the parachutist and some canopy illumination under moon-less conditions.

The LSM’s lighting system comprises two high-intensity LED luminaires connected to a centrally located, low profile battery/control module via robust twisted wire pair.  The components are sewn into either a 2” wide Velcro hook or nylon tape carrier ready for installation.  The CR123 battery holder is sealed and secured within a snap-together elastic cover.  Automatic activation upon slider deployment is achieved with a short-rigged lanyard which pulls an insulator tab from between the battery/holder contacts.

LSM can be permanently sewn onto the leading edge of the slider, or temporarily attached with mating Velcro.  The temporary installation is facilitated by sewing a strip of Velcro loop material onto the slider’s leading edge – allowing the lighting system to be installed only when needed.  

The LSM has been successfully test-jumped by MFF users and parachute manufacturers.  It has been designed to be a light weight, low profile device that will not impact slider or parachute deployment.
