The Multi-Axis Mount pairs with your SureFire 3V or B.E. Meyers light components to build a helmet light you can aim anywhere — forward for the task, upward for canopy lighting — without ever unclipping the mount.

What is the M-Ax Mount?

The S&S Precision Multi-Axis Mount (M-Ax Mount) is a compact, robust, multi-faceted light body system designed to be paired with SureFire Scout Light or B.E. Meyers components to create the ultimate multi-spectrum tactical helmet light system.

What makes the M-Ax different?

The defining feature of the M-Ax mount is its ability to let the operator adjust the light across a wide spectrum of directions and angles without ever repositioning the mount on the helmet. The M-Ax achieves this with a patented ball-and-socket joint system — S&S Precision holds U.S. Patent No. 8,727,556 on the design — that puts this contender in a weight class of its own.

The M-Ax Mount rides on the helmet rail outdoors — once the ball-and-socket tension is set, the light stays aimed where you put it.

The M-Ax gives the operator the highest level of control over light placement based on the task, the environment, and the equipment configuration for the mission at hand.

Why Multi-Axis Design Matters

A single light can now do the job of multiple lighting systems, reducing the need to stack extra lighting equipment onto your helmet setup.

The M-Ax can be positioned forward for the task in front. Direct lighting is useful for indoor or confined environments where you want to light the task without illuminating an entire area. And by rotating the M-Ax to a vertical position, it doubles as canopy / umbrella lighting when broad ambient overhead illumination is what the task calls for.

The M-Ax Mount applies across a range of low-light uses:

  • Search and rescue operations
  • Tactical operations
  • Low light work
  • Nighttime movement
  • Indoor and confined space operations

The M-Ax is a great example of how a relatively small component can add serious utility to an existing helmet setup: the multi-axis adjustment lets a single light cover multiple lighting requirements while staying compact and low profile.

That low-profile fit minimizes unnecessary protrusion while preserving access to the helmet rail for other equipment, keeping the light tucked into the overall helmet profile — particularly useful when working around confined spaces, vehicles, structures, or other gear.

What Helmets are Compatible?

The M-Ax Mount is available for direct attachment to most rail systems currently in use by major helmet manufacturers. There are two mount variants: the ARC version for Ops-Core-style rails, and the Team Wendy variant for EXFIL rails.

ARC (Accessory Rail Connector) rail configurations

  • Ops-Core
  • Galvion
  • Busch
  • Team Wendy EPIC / RIFLETECH
  • Any other helmet system using ARC rails

EXFIL rail configurations

  • Team Wendy helmets using 2.0 EXFIL rails
  • Team Wendy helmets using 3.0 EXFIL rails * Requires TW EXFIL 3.0 adapter

What light components are compatible with the M-Ax?

The M-Ax mount is designed to work with a range of compatible 3V light components, giving operators flexibility when configuring their helmet-mounted lighting setup.

Compatibility note

The M-Ax Mount is not compatible with SureFire 6V or dual-fuel light components. Stick to 3V components for proper fit and function.

SureFire components

Z68 Tailcap Simple tactile on / off click-style operation.
KE1 Light Bezel — white light only 1 hour run time · 600 lumens · 7,600 candela.
KM1 Light Bezel — dual spectrum White light: 1 hour 30 mins run time · 250 lumens · 9,300 candela. IR: 6 hours run time · 100mW.

B.E. Meyers components

KIJI Tailcap Simple tactile on / off click-style operation.
KIJI 3° Light Bezels — IR spectrum only 4 hours 15 mins at 150mW, then ramps down over an additional 30 mins until it hits 10% output.
KIJI 10° Light Bezels — IR spectrum only 1 hour 15 mins at 350mW, then ramps down over an additional 46 mins until it hits 10% output.

The SureFire KM1 is the clear winner here when it comes to runtime and light versatility for both spectrums of light; you can rapidly swap between white light and the IR spectrum simply by twisting the light head to the desired mode of operation. That said, your specific end-use application — paired with the specs above — will help you select the best configuration for your needs.

M-Ax Setup & Adjustment

Before setting up your M-Ax mount, decide which side of the helmet you'll run it on. The mount ships pre-assembled for installation on the right-hand side of the helmet; if you plan to run it on the left, you'll need to swap the orientation as described below (Screw A). The M-Ax mount locks onto the rail with a dedicated set screw (Screw B), giving a solid connection between the mount and the helmet rail system.

Screw A (1/16″ hex) — Left / Right Orientation

Controls the orientation of the light assembly and allows the mount to be configured on either side of the helmet.

Screw B (3/32″ hex) — Rail Attachment

Secures the M-Ax Mount onto the helmet rail system.

Screw C (3/32″ hex) — Ball Joint Tension

Two screws that set the resistance of the ball-and-socket joint, controlling how freely the light can be repositioned.

After installing the M-Ax Mount, verify that it is properly seated on the helmet rail and that the locking hardware is secure. Check the following before use:

  1. Confirm the rail attachment is fully seated.
  2. Verify the rail locking set screw is properly tightened.
  3. Set the ball-joint tension to the desired resistance (Screw C).
  4. Position the light for the intended application.
  5. Move the helmet through a normal range of motion to confirm the light stays where you put it.
  6. Confirm the light and mount do not interfere with other rail-mounted equipment.

As with any helmet-mounted equipment, the final configuration should be checked after installation and periodically during use to ensure the mounting hardware remains secure.

Final Thoughts

For operators who rely on helmet-mounted lighting, positioning can be just as important as the light output itself. The M-Ax Mount provides a mechanical solution for controlling positioning while maintaining compatibility with common helmet configurations and select light components.

The M-Ax truly reigns supreme in the helmet light world. The combination of multi-axis adjustment, tension control, ambidextrous configuration, multi-spectrum lighting, and low-profile integration makes it the most versatile helmet light option on the market.
